My Final Reflection on LIS629-Summer 2010

My final reflection...what an experience! So much technology is out there, I never knew!!

Before I started the class, I was very apprehensive about it. I had no idea what the class was actually going to be like, and honestly, I was a little intimidated by Karen after reading about her awards. Now having come out the other side, I can honestly say that it was a great experience, Karen is not scary at all, and I learned tools that I know will be useful to me. When the class first ended, I thought, it was crazy to try to cover all of that in 5 days, but now that a week has passed and I have taken a moment to breathe, I cannot see any other way to do it! I think that taking it over a shorter time period, kept me from saying "I can't..." it forced me to just do it!

A favorite? Do I really have to choose? I love the blog, livebinder, wikispaces, voicethread, amaztype, spell with flickr, all the google tools, photostory, webspirations, voki...does that about cover everything? Of course not! There were a few that I did not like...mindomo and empressr were very difficult to work with. I can see myself using wikispaces, voicethread, photostory, all that I listed above, in a school setting, or just in my life. I will stick with Twitter for a while, but I find it hard to keep up with, if you do not check it every second you will miss something!

All in all, I loved the class, I wish there was a Part II...

Day 5

Day 5 finally arrived. We learned so much over 5 days, it is hard to keep it all straight in my head. I am remembering the tools, I just cannot remember where to access them all. I am glad that we still have access to the class wiki, I will be going through every single link to remind myself what they are as well as bookmarking them in delicious. I have found delicious to be very helpful. I will have to pick one tool that we learned about over these 5 days and put that in the final project, but I am not sure that choosing one will be so easy.
I have met some very nice people over the past 10 days/2 classes, I hope that I will see them again in other classes.
Thanks to Karen for sharing her wealth of knowledge with us!

Day 4

What a frustrating day! Computers that were malfunctioning...between the mouse sticking and the keyboard sticking, and websites that were just running so slowly! The electricity went out at my house tonight, so I am just getting online to write my daily blog. We learned some cool stuff today. Creating our own websites was fun. I need to have some time to go back in and really investigate all of the ins and outs of wix.com and glogster.com
Thank goodness for Nicole D. She's young so she can figure all of this stuff out and she helps point me in the right direction!
I am looking forward to looking at the animation websites that we touched on today. I still have to get all of the links into delicious from the class wiki. I wish I had thought to do it as we were going along, oh well, lesson learned.
Tomorrow is the last day of class. I am definitely intimidated by the final project. Karen says not to worry, it is easier than it sounds, but that is easy for her to say.

Day 3

Wow, three days, it's all a whirlwind! I am learning so much, but will I be able to keep it all straight? I am trying to keep all of the links and passwords compartmentalized so that I can refer back to them when this is all over. I came home tonight and immediately showed my family Wordle, amaztype and spellwithflickr. I showed them what I did on mywebspiration.com
I was glad that I could retain it all, but I took notes too. I was really disappointed in our presentation today, we had high hopes that it would be great, but I didn't like working with empressr. if the fancy tools are there, they are hiding...not easily found.
Now I will spend the weekend finishing up the projects for LIS626 that are due on Monday. But I do hope to have some time to play with all of the fun stuff that I have learned over the past three days.

Day 2....

Day 2...I love all of this stuff but right now I am so overwhelmed, I barely start to use one thing and we move on to another! When (and how) will it all make sense? Or will it? I love the idea of the RSS feeds, but maybe it will be too much.
There is so much in google that I did not even know was out there, I want to know it all. Is there a 5 day class just for all the google stuff? Google reader looks great, I love to read I want to investigate that more. Google lit trips sounds interesting too. The google search bar tricks are all very clever, maybe I can impress my kids...maybe not...they probably know it all already and it is just a fact of life for them because as far as they are concerned it has always been there...
When we do the final project will we just be sent out to put it all together or will there be a little more structure when we get to that point?
When will my head stop spinning?

Using Blogs in the Library

Blogging is new to me, I have heard about it, but never actually investigated the possibilities.
I can see blogs being used in my library to start discussions about books, recommendations about websites that students have found useful in their research and finally to get feedback about programs that I set up in the library. I do believe that Blogs are going to be very useful, and that I will keep discovering more uses for them in a library setting.
